It debuted at number ii on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the US Pinnacle R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, selling 125,000 copies in its first week.[10] It became DMX's get-go album to not debut at number one on the Billboard 200.
Critical reception [edit]
At Metacritic, the album got a score of lx out of 100 based on "mixed or boilerplate reviews".[2] XXL gave it an "L" score equivalent to three stars out of 5 and stated, "Clearly, Ten's poetic touch on remains intact. Simply Year of the Dog relies likewise heavily on nostalgia, ignoring how hip-hop and DMX himself have changed over the years. Lyrically, the projection sounds as if the Dog has been living in isolation for years, rarely shifting from his trademark style. Sadly, if Ten doesn't larn a few new tricks, things might never be the same…once more."[eleven] HipHopDX gave it a score of ii.5 out of 5 and said, "The anthology fairly consistent of what DMX has get - lost. Much similar his outlandish antics and brushes with the law, 10 is all over the place on wax, battling incoherence and sane thinking."[12] AllHipHop gave it a score of three-and-a-half out of five stars and said, "DMX is flawless as DMX. He has carved his own niche, perfecting his make of unfiltered aggression. Legions of DMX loyalist volition not be disappointed."[13] About.com as well gave information technology a score of three-and-a-half out of five stars and said, "Despite all the crises occurring in X'southward personal life, he still finds a way to preserve the breadth and depth of his powerful voice; his phonation alone is capable of propelling the anthology. While the canine theme is hard to error, forgiveness, redemption and, ultimately, the presence of a supreme beingness present themselves equally a subtext in X'southward canine heed. It seems like the domestic dog has found his manner home, finally."[14]
Commercial performance [edit]
